The Long-eared Owl is one of the larger members of the North American owl family. It is not uncommon to find large numbers of these birds together in a conifer growth in the late fall and winter months, as they migrate south from the coming winter. Just like the Short-eared Owl, these owls hunt their prey by flying low over the landscape and dropping down upon their prey unexpectedly. It has been reported as a rare visitor to Cuba.
