The Purple Gallinule is a very colourful rail-type bird. When it is in its breeding plumage, the colours range from deep purple, blue, yellow and red. This gallinule can be seen in the reed beds in Florida. It has the ability to swim on the water, walk across soft bottom ponds, walk of the plant life growing on the water surface, or climb and perch on reed stocks. It is seen throughout the Caribbean islands and it is a native bird of Cuba.
